Carmichael International Service, a valued USA-ITA Associate Member, celebrated its 50^th Anniversary in September 2011. The following is a memo from the company:

September 2011 marks the fiftieth anniversary of business activity for Carmichael International Service (CIS). We sincerely want to thank all of our clients, past and present, for giving us the opportunity to assist them throughout the years.

CIS was founded and licensed in 1961 as a Customhouse Broker, Foreign Freight Forwarder and Marine Insurance Agent, the necessary requisites, at the time, to enter the international trade arena.

As mandated by the Modernization Act (PL103-182) December 8, 1993 importers need to remember that the use of Reasonable Care is to be exercised in the structuring and handling of Customs transactions; recordkeeping is another important requirement. Our managers, supervisors and associates have dedicated many years to working with clients and government agencies, using integrity, knowledge and willingness to serve our clients’ needs. CIS owes its success to these individuals, locals and others who come from many different countries, with different backgrounds. They work together to sustain the reputation that we have achieved.

CIS has been developing needed technological applications to facilitate the dissemination of information and data between all parties to the international transaction and fully participate in programs and changes with all the government agencies.

As times changed it became necessary for CIS to expand, not only our core businesses of customs brokerage and freight forwarding but into other areas as well; first into warehousing and later into international transportation.

In warehousing we have come a long way from our original 15,000 square foot warehouse loading project cargo to a mine in New Guinea to our current 100,000 sq. ft full service facility in Compton, CA conveniently located to the seaports of Los Angeles and Long Beach as well as LAX.

In the past several years we have built up our network of agents around the world to better serve our clients in their international transportation needs. The challenge was not only to be price competitive but also to maintain the level of service our clients have come to expect from our brokerage and export forwarding departments. We continue to meet that challenge as well as expand the types of services we can offer.
